Let's Get This Turned Around!

My team has lost six games in a row. Do I look worried? NO!!! Because I know that my boys will get this turned around and headed in the right direction. I have been listening to the games on MLB's At Bat with Twitter feeds. So many so-called Braves fans were saying the ugliest, nastiest things about the team and the way they have been playing. Take the good with the bad.

How I Keep Up With My Braves

Ever since TBS stopped broadcasting the Braves, I have been scrambling to find some way to catch all the games. Cable and satellite were both dead-ends. I tried satellite radio but there were too many add-ons I had to buy so that was out. Thank-goodness for the internet! I would love to get MLB TV but on a fixed income, the price is too high. I can catch all the games on MLB Gameday At-Bat. I don't want to sound like I'm doing a commercial for this service, but living in rural Montana, this was my best (and cheapest) option!

Many, Many Thanks

What a wonderful day! I have to give a shout-out and thanks to Angela Jachetta, Atlanta Braves third base coach, #51 Brian Snitker, and #23 Matt Diaz!! Your kindness and generosity have made more than just my day!! I wish I could thank each and every one of you in person. I have always been proud to be a Braves fan, but now I'm even more so! Thank-you, thank-you and thank-you!!!

Thoughtless and Arrogant

I watched the Braves home opener on ESPN. The announcers were Orel Hershiser and Sean McDonnaugh. I apologize if I spelled your name wrong, Sean. Anyway, there was a play where Orel asked how the play was scored. Sean snapped, "You gonna save that scoresheet for the rest of your life?" I thought that remark was thoughtless and arrogant. What if there were some youngsters watching who were practicing how to keep score? It does take some practice as sometimes several things are happening at one time. Announcers, especially ESPN announcers, should really be able to help us sort things out. Skip Caray was the best when it came to remembering that someone watching might be just learning how to score the game of baseball. ESPN announcers could learn a thing or two from the examples set by Skip.

Opening Day

The Braves hosted the Chicago Cubs on opening day at Turner Field. The final score: 16-5 Atlanta. My favorite player, Matt Diaz, didn't play. Rookie phenom Jason Heyward caught the ceremonial first pitch thrown by Hank Aaron. It looked like it was a beautiful day in Atlanta--85 degrees at first pitch. Atlanta is off to a great start!!

My Team

I became a fan of the Atlanta Braves back in the early 80's. I was at a very low point in my life with nothing to look forward to until I found the Braves on WTBS. Back then, every single game was broadcast and I found a connection with the team. I first fell in love with the team of announcers. There was Skip Caray, Pete Van Wieren, John Sterling and Ernie Johnson. I could count on these guys to make me feel like a part of the Braves family. Then I noticed the team itself. They weren't the best team in baseball but I didn't care. Win or lose, this was my team. It's a love affair that continues to this day.
